To members of our Lacrosse Community,
As most of you are undoubtedly aware, there is a group based in Surrey calling itself Black Dog Lacrosse. This group is headed by former South Fraser President Daphne LeClare. Just to re-iterate what has been said before, this group is operating outside of the jurisdiction of the BCLA and is not willing to provide us with any information about themselves. The sanctions that were put in place last year are still there and I would like to ask each of you to pass on to your coaches that BCLA registered teams are NOT permitted to play the Black Dog team. Further to that, and stated in a letter by the chair of the BCLOA, any referee found participating in a game with Black Dog Lacrosse will be suspended.
Now on to what has prompted me to send this reminder out today. Recently there was a casting call request go out from a production company for lacrosse players in the 10 to 14 year old range. This message was sent from the BCLA office and I personally forwarded it to league chairs to pass on to anyone interested. It appears the the Black Dog team got wind and took this as an opportunity to be their personal ticket to stardom. The shoot was attended by players from all clubs including Black Dog. The reports I received were that Mrs. LeClare brought a net along for a prop, which was a great idea as there were none. When she was done taking command of the field, and the Black Dog kids were done, so was the net and the photographer and other kids were left to fend for themselves. So much for spirit of community or let's all work for the benefit of the kids.
As organizers of youth lacrosse and myself being involved for almost 20 years, we see people with their personal agendas come through the system. I have seen it, I am sure you all have seen it. We can only hope they part company before doing too much damage. That is what is going on here.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that BC Lacrosse is in no way supporting this group and in fact discourages anyone from participating with them. I would like to further request that you and your organization follow suit and consider this group in bad standing, a detriment to the game and your members should stay away. If you could ask your coaches to speak to the players and let them know that this group should be avoided. Remembering that we are all here for the greater good of the sport and more importantly, the kids.
